Now is the time. The time for collective power.

 

It is a necessary time to call out injustices and call in new practices. Particularly in artistic spaces. It is time for theatre leaders to amplify the stories of our communities on their stages and within their programming- year round!

 

For people of color, this looks like designing productions that center their voices by affirming POC theatre makers as quality artists, and valuing the importance of diverse and intergenerational audiences.

 

For womyn and gender non-conforming folks, this looks like making room for more seats at the table or giving up your seat at the table, to hear different perspectives and solutions- as equal decision makers, board members and innovators.

 

For immigrant and refugee communities, this looks like creating productions that cultivate a sense of belonging by connecting them to the joy of theatre.

 

For youth, this looks like creating safe artistic spaces where they can let their imaginations flow free and live their truth- we must nurture the visionaries of our future!

 

For humanity, it looks like equipping POC, womyn, disAbled people, and LGBTQ+ folks as leaders with equitable resources, and artistic value to sustain their visions as art for social change agents.

 

WE are responsible for being the historians of our cultural survival! WE demand that the time is now for our city and world to be more inspired to intentionally listen to the voices of the folks who have been traditionally kept out from mainstream spaces. WE must continue to cultivate a culture of access, advocacy, and appreciation for the arts. Art is a tool for empathy and collaboration. WE believe that if we create more affirmative and identifiable experiences in theatrical spaces more people will engage in the process of their own liberation.
